Trafalgar Neighbourhood Watch

(PO box 321 Trafalgar 3824)

What is Neighbourhood Watch?

Neighbourhood Watch is a community-based crime prevention programme. It aims to reduce the incidence of preventable crime and provide a safer community for all Victorians.

The Neighbourhood Watch program utilises four simple strategies:

  • -Identification of valuables through engraving/ultraviolet ink marking
  • -Reporting of suspicious behaviour to Police on 000
  • -Security and community safety awareness
  • -Signposting the NHW logo on residential properties
  • The newly formed Trafalgar Neighbourhood Watch held its first community meeting on December 2005 and currently delivers bi-monthly newsletters to over 1200 residences within the Trafalgar and Trafalgar East townships.

All residents of Trafalgar and surrounding areas are welcome to attend community meetings and many go on to volunteer as zone leaders, delivering our bi-monthly newsletter to designated areas of the town. Meetings are well attended and supported by local police, who present details regarding recent local crime events, combined with discussions with residents on crime prevention strategies.

We have information brochures outlining the role of NHW, free letterbox and gate NHW signs and you may access the NHW website on http://www.neighbourhoodwatch.com.au for more information.

Each meeting we host a guest speaker, delivering short talks or presentations on various issues. Recent topics include 'powers of attorney', 'bush fire preparedness', 'how to deal with neighbourly disputes' and 'protection of your home from burglars'. Future guest speakers include local Ambulance personnel, a Funeral Director, a Lawyer, Lifeline counsellors, and many more.

Our small committee consists of annually elected representatives. We conduct our meetings in a friendly and informal manner, with a light supper provided at the conclusion. The meeting venue provides toilets and access for wheelchairs.

We would like to welcome you to Trafalgar at our next meeting. If you require further information, please do not hesitate to contact The Secretary via PO Box 321, Trafalgar 3824 or phone our Area Manager, Greg, on 56 33 2184.
