Annual Event:

Battle Of Trafalgar

WHAT IS IT?

Victory Ship by Morris Allen Festival Art Exhibition 2003

A local 1-2 week festival celebrating the well known Battle of
Trafalgar that occurred on October 21 1805, from which our Town
gets its name.

WHO RUNS IT?

The Trafalgar Community Development Association is a community
'progress related' organisation that, amongst other things,
undertakes an annual Battle of Trafalgar festival, which runs
for approximately 10 days in the second half of October. We are
proposing to make the festival in 2005 one of special
significance.

HISTORY

The township of Trafalgar was named after the famous naval
battle between Lord Horatio Nelson, leading a fleet from the
British Navy, and a combined French/Spanish naval force off the
Cape of Trafalgar in Spain on 21 October 1805. As 2005 is the
200th anniversary of the original battle, we have formed a
sub-committee to start planning for the event. We also expect
that the British government, and probably a number of the Nelson
related societies and associations in Britain, will also be
undertaking special events during this time to mark the
anniversary.
