The Trafalgar Community Development Association (TCDA) was established
in 1999 as the result of a number of changes that were affecting the
town.
The TCDA's primary purpose is to pursue issues raised in our community
and to bring the community together to realise the community's
aspirations.
The TCDA is becoming the focal point for local and state government
contact on matters that generally affect the town.
The TCDA has been active in bringing a voice to the community through
the development of a monthly newspaper, the Traf News, and has
resurrected the annual Battle of Trafalgar festival that is held in
October of each year.
The TCDA is presently involved in bringing the community together in an
attempt to plan for the town's future over the next decade. It is
responsible for bringing together members of the community through a
series of four focus groups looking at the town's recreational
development, economic development, land use management and community
development.
From this, a strategic plan and strategic actions was developed
which will set the town's direction for the next few years.
The Trafalgar community is an active community living in one of
Victoria's hidden treasures.

Trafalgar Strategic Plan 2004-05/06-07(Click to Download Full Version)
The development of a plan that will clearly articulate Trafalgar's future
has been a high priority of the Trafalgar Community Development Association
(TCDA) for some time. This document is a significant achievement in
providing future direction for Trafalgar.
This plan is special in that it was developed by the Trafalgar community
for the Trafalgar community. More than 70 people from the community were
involved, together with representatives from the Baw Baw Shire.
The TCDA is confident that, with the support of the Baw Baw Shire, the
Trafalgar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the town's various community,
service and sporting clubs, and the Trafalgar community, the strategic
goals and actions will be achieved.
Communication Survey
The survey of Trafalgar's residents in the latter half of 2003 was a high
priority of the Trafalgar Community Development Association. It was also
identified by the Trafalgar Community in the 2001/2002 Partners in
Community Building Project as being important to the community
Its purpose was to assist local residents, businesses, clubs and other
interested groups to communicate clearly, quickly and effectively to the
various stakeholders, thus creating an environment for that will assist
volunteer participation, economic and social activity, increased
awareness of government policy and procedures (and other
instrumentalities) and a better understanding by external service
providers of Trafalgar's particular needs.
The benefits of a project such as this are that the Trafalgar community
now has a document that:
· identifies communication products currently used by local residents,
businesses, clubs and other interested groups;
· assesses their effectiveness; and
· identifies other communication products not currently utilised that
are of benefit to the community.
The results of this survey will permit local residents, schools, clubs
and businesses to have a better understanding of how to better
communicate within the community and with their various contacts outside
the community.
A number of the recommendations that form part of this report form part
of the community's 2003-04 to 2006-07 Strategic Plan.
